2021 Bridge Funding Awardee
Jamie, Lo, MD MCR, Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University, is the recipient of the 2021 Foundation for SMFM Bridge Funding Award sponsored by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Education Foundation. Dr. Lo is a physician-scientist whose research is focused on using non-human primate (NHP) models to study maternal substance use and its effect on the placenta and offspring. The overarching goal is to better understand the potential deleterious prenatal effects of maternal substance use so that we can improve our counseling, antenatal surveillance, and timing of intervention for pregnant women who have substance use disorder.
The Foundation for SMFM Bridge Funding will enable Dr. Lo to 1) characterize longitudinal changes in normal amniotic fluid proteome and 2) determine the effect of chronic prenatal THC exposure on amniotic fluid proteomic profiles and fetal gut development. These data will hopefully generate high-impact publications and preliminary results necessary to obtain future R01-level funding.
