2022 Garite Mini-Sabbatical Grants (Spring Cycle)
CeCe Cheng, MD, a first-year Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 Garite Mini-Sabbatical Grants for her project entitled “Complex Family Planning (CFP) for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician in the Current Political Landscape.”
Dr. Cheng will spend four weeks at the University of California, San Francisco, under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Kerns, learning methods of uterine evacuation, with an emphasis on second-trimester D&E and feticidal injections. In addition, as part of the sabbatical, Dr. Cheng will conduct a prospective survey analysis of the needs of MFM fellows and program directors on complex family planning training in the wake of increasing restrictions on reproductive options available to pregnant people in the United States.
The Garite Mini-Sabbatical grant will allow Dr. Cheng to gain knowledge and skills in comprehensive family planning services, which are core skills for MFM physicians in training.
